Scorpeus Shape Matters
The Pro V collection is already making waves with players and fans alike, thanks to its standout performance and design. Today, we're going to talk about one of our O.G. shapes, one-half of the inspiration for the Kosmos, you know it, you love it, the doubles icon, the Scorpeus.
The trusted shape of both Anna Bright and Collin Johns, two legends of the doubles game. Each brings a different playstyle, yet both rely on the adaptability of the Scorpeus shape because it’s quick, responsive, and forgiving. Built for offensive firefights at the kitchen line, it remains nimble enough for defensive resets.
Today, we’re breaking down the Scorpeus and why it’s an essential shape in the Pro V collection. Because when it comes to performance, shape matters. Here’s what makes the Scorpeus one of the most trusted shapes in the game.

Shape Matters
Standing alone as JOOLA's signature standard paddle shape, the Scorpeus was first introduced during Gen2. This lone standard paddle shape is also JOOLA’s fastest and most forgiving. Great for doubles, the wider profile expands the sweet spot, delivering added stability on blocks, resets, and counters—key shots where less court needs to be covered, and more points are won at the net.
| Sweet Spot Location | What is a standard class paddle? |
| A traditional wide-body paddle shape (typically 16" long x 8" wide) prioritizes a larger sweet spot, forgiveness, and fast hand speed. Players benefit from easier control, consistency, and maneuverability during quick net exchanges, making it ideal for balanced or control-focused play. |
How it Plays
When it comes to choosing between the 14mm and 16mm JOOLA Scorpeus Pro V, the difference often comes down to playstyle.
14mm: Typically favored by aggressive, offense-first players who want extra pop and faster ball speed. Players like Anna Bright gravitate toward the 14mm because the thinner core delivers quick response for drives, counters, and putting pressure on opponents during fast exchanges.
16mm: Often preferred by players who prioritize control and feel. The thicker core increases dwell time, helping with resets, blocks, and precision shots. It’s a popular choice for right-side doubles players, like Collin Johns, a defense-first strategist who needs a paddle that absorbs pace and keeps steady during long hands battles at the kitchen.
Paddle Specs
Paddle specs shape how a paddle performs on the court. Weight, core thickness, surface material, and shape all influence power, control, spin, and stability. The key is finding specs that match how you play. Do you want more pop on drives, more spin on serves, or more control in the soft game? Understanding paddle specs helps you choose the right tool for the attributes that matter most in your game.
For the release of the Scorpeus Pro V, both the Anna Bright 14mm and 16mm come with a smaller 4.125-inch grip circumference, for players with smaller hands looking for a stronger, steadier grip feel that minimizes unwanted vibration.
While the Collin Johns' 16mm version features JOOLA’s standard 4.25-inch grip circumference in a new club green colorway. Check out the full paddle specs below:

What the Pros Think

“The [Scorpeus] has a low swing rate and a high twist rate, so that’s really going to help you during firefights. You’re going to be so quick switching from forehand to backhand, and if you have a mishit, it’s not going to twist and break for you. It’s really an incredible paddle.” – Anna Bright |
Anna Bright (14mm and 16mm): With her ability to read the game and thrive in doubles, the Scorpeus gives Anna the confidence to deliver in the biggest moments. The balanced design complements her attacking style, delivering stability for powerful drives and quick responsiveness for fast hand battles.

“The new Pro V Scorpeus 16mm CJ Signature provides the same stability and maneuverability as previous generations, but the added throat flexibility introduces a new level of power on longer strokes like drives and swinging volleys. The Pro V updates turn an already proven, reliable shape into an even bigger weapon.” - Collin Johns |
